The move from reception to year one is a move from the more unstructured early years curriculum to the more formal primary curriculum. This is reflected by the move from the children’s centre to the main school. In the summer term before children move up we hold a coffee morning for parents to outline the changes ahead. Over the first term there is a gradual transition to the new structured learning.
Years 1 , 2 and 3 are in the lower phase and led by the lower phase leader. Years 4, 5 and 6 are in the upper phase and led by the upper phase leader. Throughout their lives at Ambler children are expected to show courtesy and respect to each other and all adults. As they move up the school they are given responsibilities such as ICT and reading hub monitors, school council, peer buddies, stair and assembly monitors and annually the Head boy and girl are elected.
If children join the school during the school year both the child and their parents meet the head teacher before they start. They are told about what to expect and Ambler’s expectations as well as practical information such as uniform etc. The child is introduced to their new teacher and assigned a buddy to support them in their first few days.
Let's make something beautiful together...
