It is important that as children grow and develop they understand the importance of physical activity in developing and maintaining their health and well being. At Ambler we aim to inspire our children to be healthy and active and to develop a passion for sport.
The children are given opportunities to compete in interschool events in a variety of sports and every child can take part in competitions within the school. We promote the idea of good sportsmanship and fair play in all our activities with an understanding that the taking part is the most important thing.
Alongside competitions we celebrate individual successes in Physical Education, recognising that personal achievement and attitude are often just as important as a win for the team.
Children are given the opportunity to swim from Year 2 – 5. Our aim is for all pupils leaving the school to be able to swim at least 25m.
Everyone in Key Stage 2 also has the chance to complete the National Cycling Proficiency scheme.
Ambler opened a new all-weather astro-turf pitch in 2017, thanks to the continued support of Arsenal Football Club. Proceeds from last year’s Arsenal Legends game against AC Milan at the nearby Emirates Stadium have gone to refurbishing the surface in our Football Cage.
One of our talented parents shot the fantastic video below, so please check it out to get a flavour of the day:
The Islington Gazette also covered the ceremony, saying that ‘Future Arsenal Stars Can Grow on New Ambler Primary Pitch’. You can see their full news story, which features Arsenal legend Martin Keown, below:
