At Ambler we adopt an investigative approach to Science. The children learn about a wide range of areas, including living things, materials and natural phenomena.

Each term children study two topics based around the following subjects:

  • Living Things
  • Materials
  • Plants
  • Forces
  • Rocks
  • Light
  • Electricity
  • Sound

Work is planned throughout the school to ensure balance and progression within the context of the National Curriculum. Much of the work is of a practical nature and involves the children in observing, hypothesising and predicting results. Some science classes take place beyond the school walls – at local museums or nearby study centres, such as Islington’s Ecology Centre or London Zoo.

This academic year we will taking part in Science Week whereby the children will complete a thorough investigation related to their termly topic and deepen their understanding of what science is.
