There are three main sub-committees of the full governing body.
The Development and Learning Committee (D&L) meets three times a year and is responsible for raising standards and helping children to achieve more.
We review the performance of the school and children’s centre, against national and local indicators, and advise the governing body on any action required.
As part of this we analyse reports from the Headteacher on the quality of teaching and learning, identify areas for improvement, and ensure that necessary action is taken to maximise improved outcomes for pupils.
We assess Ambler’s improvement plans and ask questions about how the National Curriculum is taught, evaluated and resourced.
We also approve the annual key stage targets and monitor post-inspection Ofsted action plans.
We seek to ensure the needs of both more able and talented pupils and those with special educational needs are met.
Current members: Victoria Smith (Chair), Juliet Benis, Clare Potter, John Nicholson, Suad Ahmed.
The Finance and Personnel Committee (F&P) meets three times a year; its role is to provide guidance and assistance to the Headteacher, the Senior Management Team and the full governing body in all matters relating to budgeting, finance and personnel.
Our responsibilities include the review of each year’s annual management plan priorities, and presentation of the annual budget to the Governing Body for approval. We also consider the School and Children’s Centre’s longer-term strategic plans, and monitor the income and expenditure of all public funds, reporting the financial situation to the full governing body each term.
We also play a role in considering Ambler’s staffing structure, and its annual and longer-term salary and staff training budgets. Members tend to have expertise in Finance and Human Resources.
Current members: Elli Bate (Chair), Juliet Benis, John Nicholson, Rebecca Crosby.
The Safety, Services and Communications Committee (SS&C) is responsible for ensuring a safe and nurturing physical and social environment for learning that supports pupils and staff to realise their DREAMS.
Meeting at least three times a year, we support the school to deliver its priorities for personal development, behaviour (including attendance) and welfare, in line with the Ofsted framework.
In addition, we oversee many of the wider services delivered at Ambler –breakfast and after-school provision, school meals and Children’s Centre outreach services (alongside the Children’s Centre Advisory Board) – as well as ensuring the quality of important behind-the-scenes services such as site security.
Communications and marketing also falls within our remit and by championing ‘parent voice’ we ensure that good, two-way channels of communication exist between the school and parents.
Current members: Pascal Auberson (Chair), Juliet Benis, Mary Stevens, Cassie Dummett.
The following committees meet as required:
