Ambler is currently able to offer all children from Nursery to Year 6 a free school dinner, through Islington funding.
Ambler Primary School and Children’s Centre is dedicated to providing an environment that promotes healthy eating and enables children to make informed choices about the food they eat.
Dinners are served canteen-style with children of different ages sitting at the same table, while a member of staff eats with the children to help promote lunchtime table manners. You can view an example of our menu on Caterlink’s website.
We were awarded the Healthy Schools London ‘Gold’ award in January 2018, which involves engaging the wider community and supporting others to help children maintain a healthy weight, lifestyle and wellbeing. We also hold the highest food hygiene rating.
Breakfast is an important meal that should provide 25% of a child’s energy requirement and contribute significantly to their vitamin and mineral requirements.
The school operates a breakfast club for working parents (08:00-08:55) as well as ‘soft start’ Free breakfast club (08:30-08:50) that provides a nutritious meal for pupils before the school day. The breakfast menu includes healthy cereals, bagels and toast.
School clubs operate on a daily basis 15:45-16:45 and children may bring and eat a healthy snack between 15:30-15:45. The school discourages the consumption of snacks high in fat and sugar at school and encourages for example, rice cakes, fruit, water or juice.
Our after school staff provide children with a healthy after school snack and are aware of children’s allergies or intolerances. Examples of the food served are, hummus, carrot sticks, celery sticks and crackers. We also serve burgers and sausages which are meat free as well beans (reduced sugar).
Let's make something beautiful together...
