17 Oct Mama Panya’s Pancakes – Year 2’s Kenyan Market
This term year 2 have been reading ‘Mama Panya’ Pancakes’, a wonderful story based in Kenya that follows a mother and her son on their journey to make pancakes their village.
On Monday year 2’s classrooms were transformed into a Kenyan market place and the children spent the day learning all things Kenya!
The marketplace featured a spice table where the children could smell different spices such as cardamom, cinnamon and chilli. The children visited the market where they could ‘buy’ objects but they had to make sure they had enough money! Then they prepared plantain and prepared pancakes which they were allowed to eat afterwards!
The children also learnt some Swahili from one of Ambler’s parents who volunteered for the day. It was a wonderful day for the year 2 children and grown ups alike!
Let’s see where we end up visiting next half term!
