05 Oct Science in Year 1 – It’s All About Our Senses
In science Year 1 have been learning about the five senses of the body and Year 2 have been learning about the important things animals need in order to survive. To help them learn more about this KS1 had a special visitor this half term! We welcomed Kelly from the Dogs Trust and her lovely dog, Tigger.
Tigger is a 7 year old Staffordshire Bull Terrier and visit lots of different schools to place science learning in a real life context. The children had the opportunity to discuss everything a dog needs to keep healthy as well as how senses differ among humans and dogs. We learnt some very interesting facts! Tigger even demonstrated her extremely strong sense of smell by sniffing out the tasty treats we had hidden under some cups. As well as this we learnt how to keep safe and responsible around dogs. This included how to safely approach dogs and always asking the owner first if we are allowed to stroke the dog.
It was a fantastic workshop and the children and teachers thoroughly enjoyed Tigger’s great company in our lesson!
